Fiji

We decided that in between a road trip in Australia and New Zealand that we would need a holiday on our holiday! Fiji is so gorgeous and there is so much to do there. I am already dying to go back.

You will fly into Nadi Airport. This is the closest to the port. We booked our boat transfer with Awesome Adventures, but most resorts will offer a boat too. It will depend on the timings and prices that suit you best. You can book a return trip to one or multiple islands with them.

We spent our 6 days in the Yasawa Islands. We contemplated moving around to a few islands but decided a break in between our travels would suit us best. We did a lot of research before we decided, so here are the places and things I would recommend.

We stayed in Octopus Resort, 2.5 hours from the mainland. It was a nice resort that offered dorm rooms and private rooms, a pool and a beach, daily activities and a dive school. We had wanted to go to the sister resort, Blue Lagoon, but decided against it because it was a 4.5 hour boat trip. In hindsight, we wish we had just bit the bullet and went there as it is slightly better than Octopus and has more sea life to offer for diving and snorkelling.

We also thought about spending a couple of days on Beachcomber Island, as this is a party island.

Diving and snorkelling is a must in Fiji. The sea life and coral is amazing and the water is crystal clear. Resorts will generally offer both and you can also arrange day tours to even dive with sharks! (This is on our list if we go back)

Other day trips include a trip to ‘Cloud 9‘. This is a bar in the middle of the ocean. You can arrange trips from the mainland or certain islands and chill here for the day. It is an expensive day out, so if you’re happy with the views in your resort, then there’s no huge need to visit!

Top tips:

  • If you’re going to multiple islands, its best to start at the closest islands to the mainland first and make your way out to the further ones after. You will get to spend more time at all of the islands and have one long return boat trip then.
  • If you have to spend one night on the mainland due to flight/boat times, we stayed at Oasis Palms. Clean and reasonable for one night with a free airport transfer.
  • If you don’t want to get a boat, there is always the option of a sea plane, however, it is a lot more expensive.
  • Enjoy Paradise!

Happy Travelling,

Top Tip Traveller 🙂

  1. Is it worth planning to spend time in Nadi or is there not much to do there?

    1. Em I don’t think so really unless you’re checking into a really nice resort and chilling there. I know there are hostels in Nadi but the Yasawa Islands are fab!
